Letter from the Executive Director of Dove, Inc.: Coordinating efforts to address unmet needs and social injustices.
Winter can be a lonely time for our friends and neighbors. I would like to encourage you to take some time this month to look around your neighborhood and reach out to your neighbors. Take the time to get to know each other, have a cup of coffee and a conversation. There is so much value in a friendly ear. Sharing our burdens makes the challenges lighter.
Another way to combat the winter blahs is to get engaged. Maybe invite that same neighbor to volunteer with you. There are great organizations, including many programs of Dove, which function only on volunteers. Our Children’s Clothing Room, MAX program, BABES program, and DeWitt Food Pantry are just a few examples. Our community is a great place to live because people like you care enough to volunteer to count the homeless on PIT Count Day (Jan 25), or take part in the Homeless Advisory Council (Jan 11). Whether its committee involvement or cutting coupons for military families, you can make a difference.
If you or your organization’s members would like to learn more about supporting Dove’s mission, please reach out to our Volunteer & Community Relations Director, Barb Blakey. Dove, Inc. is only as strong as its member organizations, volunteers and advocates. It is my sincere hope that you will be a part of making our home a community free of human suffering.
