Celebrate Earth Day!

Celebrate Earth Day!

On Saturday, April 20th, Dove’s Community Recycling Center is having a special event for Earth Day!  In honor of this, we will be offering .50 per pound for aluminum cans.  Alpha Chi Omega sorority from Millikin will be there helping us.  The event is from 8am to 1pm at 130 W. Cerro Gordo.

Did you know?

ü  We have new hours!  Thu:  Noon-5pm  Fri & Sat:  8am-Noon

ü  We work with Macon County Environmental Management picking up recycled paper at the schools across the county.  We probably pick up at your child’s school!

ü  The Dove Recycle Center is all about the COMMUNITY.  Because of that, you have three options when recycling your cans:
1)      Keep the earnings for yourself
2)      Donate the earnings to Dove, Inc.
3)      Donate the earnings to your local church or favorite community organization

Come out and visit us and show your support for Earth Day!

MAX, Macon County Assistance eXchange, is a joint effort to provide a centralized location to provide monetary support to persons in the community who have a verified emergency need. MAX provides a systematic way to verify their needs and respond in a timely manner to those needs.Financial support is from area congregations, individuals and foundations. MAX Volunteers work with those seeking assistance, helping them fill out an application for assistance. The client then meets with the Coordinator to review the need. The application is reviewed and verified, …

Letter from the Executive Director of Dove, Inc.: Coordinating efforts to address unmet needs and social injustices.

Dear Friends,
Have you ever been a goat?A head-butting, territorial, grumpy goat?I know that I have, and it’s something that I have to actively work to overcome. How do we avoid those instincts? Matthew 25 instructs us that we should put away those goatish thoughts by giving food to the hungry, drink to the thirsty, welcoming the stranger, clothing the naked, caring for the sick, and visiting the prisoner.
This December as we prepare for the celebration of the coming of our Lord, past and again, let us each look for ways to take care of the least of those amongst us.Support Dove, Inc. as we look to the future with volunteer services including Coats 4 Kids being distributed and Christmas Basket deliveries, service to our community through RSVP, BABES, MAX/DAX, and the Children’s Clothing Room, as well as our programs to shelter those touched by domestic violence and house the homeless.

Letter from the Executive Director of Dove, Inc.: Coordinating efforts to address unmet needs and social injustices.

Dear Friends,
“It was a tumultuous time. Marginalized people continued their fight for equality.  A “New Right” mobilized in defense of political conservatism and traditional family roles, and the behavior of the President undermined many people’s faith in the good intentions of the federal government. “
The summary above struck me as I write this, because it is a summary of the year 1970 written for History.com. That was the year in which Dove, Inc. began. Forty-eight years later the names of the key players may have changed, but the national issues are largely the same. Human need is relational, and social injustice is still very much real.To quote another adage, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”
Ecclesiastes 1:9 tells us this is so, and to some this might seem like a message of defeat. However, I see it as a message of hope for all who are touched by Dove’s service.Because in the past 48 years, we have impacted thousands of individual lives for the better. We have…
