Dove, Inc., awarded America’s Farmers grow communities donation from local Sullivan/Moultrie county farmer


Each year, the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program partners with local farmers to provide grants to local nonprofits.

Grow Communities, which is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, provides farmers the opportunity to support and give back to nonprofit organizations they care about in their local communities by enrolling for a chance to direct a $2,500 donation to a nonprofit of their choice.


Since 2010, the Grow Communities program has given more than $29 million to nonprofits across rural America.






April 27, Moultrie County farmer David Smith directed a $2,500 donation to Dove, Inc., as part of the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund.

As part of their mission Dove will use the funds to serve victims of domestic violence in Moultrie County. "I would like to thank David Smith for choosing Dove to receive this generous donation. Dove works for justice, equality and understanding among all people." "This donation will allow us to continue this important work with victims and their children" said, Mary Hughes, Dove Inc., Moultrie County Coordinator.

Since the program began in 2010, the Grow Communities program has partnered with farmers to support nonprofit organizations important to them in their local communities. The program has given more than $29 million to farming communities since its inception, including more than $3 million in 2018. Each year, farmers enter for a chance to direct a $2,500 donation to a nonprofit they care about in their community. The organizations reflect the makeup and character of rural America, including emergency response organizations, schools, youth agriculture programs, food banks and many others.

"Farmers play a pivotal role in rural communities, and through their commitment to the Grow Communities program, we are able to provide the monetary support these nonprofit organizations need to make an impact," said Al Mitchell, Monsanto Fund president. "We’re proud to play a part in helping these rural communities grow and thrive."

A Woman of Dove's History

 March is Women’s History Month and during this month I want to acknowledge a woman who assisted Ray Batman in molding Dove, Inc. Not only was she a founder and volunteer, but her passion, dedication, and drive were so vital to building the stellar foundation that the organization stands on today. She may have been tiny in stature, but her presence was vast. She was eventually hired as the Program Director in 1974 and remained an active and avid supporter of Dove after retirement and up until her passing in 2014. Her “never take no for an answer” attitude assisted with building collaborations that are still matched today.  She was extremely instrumental in the organization of a multitude of community-related programs throughout the city of Decatur. This includes the Nationally Renowned Mother-to-Mother program, a programming concept that has been widely adopted across the country.
